Fàilte (Welcome)!

Clary Sage oil is an essential oil which is taken from a plant of the same name, this plant is a native of the southern part of Europe and has been used medicinally for thousands of years. People may think this is the same Sage that we grow in our gardens here in Canada but it is distinctly different. I thought it might be helpful to share these 9 uses for Clary Sage Essential Oil.

This oil is extracted by steam distillation. The oil is pale yellow in color, has a sweet fragrance and has a thin consistency. It can be one of the pricier oils, but its medicinal benefits cover a wide range of disorders, particularly when blended with other essential oils.

Lavender, jasmine, and geranium essential oils  blend well with Clary Sage oil.

The benefits of Clary Sage essential oil include:

7 Uses For Patchouli Oil

Fàilte (Welcome)!

Those of us who remember the 1960′s, often associate the fragrance of Patchouli Essential Oil with hippies. It is rich, earthy and grounding. In perfumery and fragrance applications, patchouli is a base note that acts as a fixative and grounds a blend. This plant only reaches a few feet in height, and grows primarily in Malaysia and other southeastern Asian countries. This bushy plant has big, soft leaves and comes from the lamiaceae plant family; the same as lavender, basil, peppermint and rosemary. While patchouli oil has a long history in places such as China and Japan, it was not until the mid 1800s that patchouli leaves first came to the Western world. People often wonder what to use Patchouli for.  Here are 7 great uses for this essential oil.

1. Aphrodisiac: Patchouli oil is commonly used in aromatherapy for its aphrodisiac and antidepressant properties. It has a soothing, earthy aroma, which makes it ideal for use in essential oil burners or diffusers or in a homemade massage oil to create a warm, uplifting atmosphere.  It is perhaps best known however as an aphrodisiac.  In “The Essential Oils Book,” Colleen K. Dodt points out that patchouli evokes a strong emotional response from both men and women and can be used in combination with other essential oils to create a personal perfume. A homemade aphrodisiac massage oil can be made by adding two or three drops of patchouli oil to a carrier oil such as grapeseed or sweet almond oil.

Fàilte (Welcome)!

Not only is this the name I gave my youngest daughter, it is the most useful essential oil/herb you can have in your home.  Melissa has an extremely ancient history of therapeutic use. The first Carmelite nuns and ancient physicians used this oil because of its innumerable health benefits. Undeniably, the most important contribution of herbal medicines in the field of health is the holistic approach of healing both the body and the mind. Melissa essential oil (or as some know it – Lemon Balm) is one such useful essential oil as its properties help strengthen the nervous system and calms both the body and the spirit. Below are 5 amazing uses for it.

Growing Melissa in your herb garden is easy peasy and it’s great to dry and keep for use through the winter. I use it in my cooking from spicing up salmon steaks, adding it to my rice and of course a lovely cuppa when sleep seems evasive.

Rosemary is an all purpose essential oil/herb that no home should be without. We all know how great this herb tastes in soups, stews and stuffing…mmm. I grow rosemary all year round! It’s so wonderful to have fresh rosemary in the winter. But did you know that rosemary was used for centuries by the Egyptians in the mummification process? Greeks attributed a mind stimulating effect to this wonderful herb and Romans used it for stimulating the heart and for poor circulation. Today, rosemary is used for many different things. Here are 8 ways this essential oil can be used:

1. Circulation

Today, rosemary is often recommended especially for those with low blood pressure. The aromatic herb can also be used for a bath. However, one must remember that because the rosemary is extremely stimulating, a bath with the essence of rosemary late in the evening may well prevent one from sleeping in the night.

Clean and Soft – Alcohol Free Hand Sanitizer

Fàilte (Welcome)!

Alcohol is notorious for removing oil from skin. This oil is one of the body’s primary natural defenses against bacteria. Tests demonstrate that repeated use of alcohol based hand sanitizers can actually lead to increased bacteria on the skin over time. In other words, ongoing use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers become less effective the more frequently they are used – not to mention, overly dry skin can result in painful cracking that also provides an environment for germs to enter the body. Consistent use of alcohol-based sanitizers can also irritate the skin, causing you to use them  less often. Finally, alcohol ingredients evaporate quickly, limiting effectiveness to a shorter time than non-alcohol sanitizers. Alcohol-free hand sanitizers are non-drying, non-irritating and remain on the skin longer before evaporating than alcohol-based products.
